It sounds easy to introduce the guest of a talk show, from external view. If you hosted a radio talk show before, and had to introduce the guest you were meeting for the first time, you will appreciate the importance of time to prepare this short but important part of a talk show.

THE ART OF INTRODUCING THE CO-HOST OF A TALK SHOW! The talk show host must either introduce or facilitate the introduction of the co-host. In doing so, they must be respectful and acknowledge the co-host for who they are to the listeners. If the co-host is comfortable, they must introduce themselves. You can do that by allowing them to say a few words about themselves and refer the listeners to further sources about them, like social media platforms.

On Tuesday, March 12th, 2024, at COMETSA Radio Worldwide (CRW), we discussed self-introduction as a host of a digital online radio talk show. This is part of the COMETSA Digital Online Streaming Mastery Development Program. There is a strong business case to master the art of introducing yourself as the host or co-host of any talk show, particularly for online radio, wherein the listeners do not see you. They can only hear your voice, which is your identity to which they relate. Secondly, you must respect your guests and listeners and not dominate the show. Your role is to hold the space, engage with the guests, and serve the listeners' interest. You’ll need to know what to include and leave out of your introduction. The rule of thumb is to make your self-introduction as short as possible. Since you are the host, you should introduce yourself immediately after opening the show and introducing the platform, the online radio station. That is followed by the guest's introduction and the conversation topic. Could you remind the listeners who you are in the middle of the show? In the same way, it would be best to do that with your guest, the platform, and the topic. As part of your preparation, you should produce the hosting script that spells out your self-introduction approach. The goal is to bring discipline into your self-introduction. There is no qualification for an excellent self-introduction. Our experience and perspective guide our conscience and define our uniqueness. There are many good hosts in the broadcasting and streaming sectors that we can benchmark against and learn from. However, we are all expected to develop our unique styles. This Unit 6: Conduct 1, Self-Introduction, focuses on crafting an engaging self-introduction, leveraging personal branding principles, to make a memorable first impression. The unit is accompanied by the Personal Branding (CDC), https://cometsa-goc.com/personal-branding-cdc/ offered by the COMETSA Business Academy (CBA). This is a public episode. The EVOLUTION OF PODCASTING! The conversation on Unit 3: Evolution of Podcasting, of our weekly Digital Online Streaming Mastery Show, with our experts, Devesh Mothilall, Maynard Maesela, Sam Tsima and Mposetse Mathole, took place on Tuesday, the 20th of February 2024, from 18h00 to 19h00 (SAST), live at COMETSA Radio Worldwide (CRW). The shift from traditional radio to podcasts changed the way we consume content. The supply of content via podcasts is demand-driven, which is different from scheduled radio broadcasting and streaming. This liberated the demand-driven content production and made it highly portable, globally. Podcasts began in 2003. The software developer, Dave Winer, created the first audio RSS feed. Christopher Lydon and Adam Curry later paired up to make the iPodder—the world's first podcast-listening device. Our show is based on the 35 Conducts (the Do’s and Don’ts) of the Streaming, DJing and Podcasting Development Programme offered by COMETSA in 2020-2021. This programme has now been developed into a 40-unit programme, incorporating these 35 conducts, titled COMETSA Digital Online Streaming Mastery (Hosting, Moderating, Anchoring, and DJing) Development Programme.
